Happy New Year!
Depending on your inclination (and how much of the wisdom available courtesy of Wikipedia, you bother to believe), this is THE year… either it’ll end in some form of wailing and gnashing of teeth come December the 21st, or the universe is spinning us toward a positive spiritual transformation. I’m a little more circumspect with my view, far from either extreme and, despite my bank manager starting early this year on his own economic end-times prediction, simply look forward to all that the year has in store, Month by Month.
In taking stock of the potential of the year ahead, I was struck by how the Volvo Ocean Race (featured on our front page with a pic courtesy of Dan Armstrong) mimics life and puts into perspective the idea that the day...

December 2011 Edition
Wow – it’s December, and another Month is done and dusted! There are too many good things in this edition to single out any one, so the table of contents to the left should get fair traffic this month; but I must comment on the cover picture of one of the provisional New Seven Wonders of the World – Table Mountain. Whatever the final confirmed list that constitutes the New Seven Wonders, it’s great to know that we have an internationally recognisable icon right here on our doorstep. I tend to side with those who suggest the whole show has been about making someone wealthier, but I’ll be happy if some of that wealth filters down to the rest of us.
